What's On

Ammonite (15)

God’s Own Country (2017) director Francis Lee turns to the life and love of Mary Anning in this exquisite romantic drama.

Famed palaeontologist and fossil collector Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) lives a life of quiet alongside her ailing mother in the beach town of Lyne Regis, Dorset. One day geologist Roderick Murchison (James McArdle) visits Mary’s shop alongside his wife – the melancholic Charlotte (Saoirise Ronan.) Without much debate, Roderdick unscrupulously leaves Charlotte with Mary.

Though initially it is a strained pairing, Mary and Charlotte grow closer over time in this heated and remarkable film.

**** “An absorbing drama that sensationally brings together two superlative performers.” – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
